On the one hand, it’s admirable. Four boys, sophomores & juniors, spending their lunch hour huddled in the corner of Mr. Walker’s math classroom. They’re shirking their peers, individuating based upon their genuine interests, & opting out of the standard societal definitions of masculinity, strength, & coolness. They are real, honest-to-God nonconformists who do not cow to the court of public opinion.
On the other hand, these four boys, sophomores & juniors with increasingly angular faces, spend their lunch hour huddled in the corner of Mr. Walker’s math classroom awash in the pale glow of their handheld video games, trash talking to one another about critical hits & the skills of their Pokemon characters.
